The caretaker in charge of Graves Mountain, Clarence Norman Jr., holds regular bi-annual "Rock Swaps and Digs" at Graves Mountain. The M.A.G.M.A club in which I'm a member regularly attend the Rock Swaps Junior hosts. Rockhounds from all over the country come to attend them in search for its many hidden treasures.  It's home of the worlds largest rutile crystal, beautiful blue bipyramidal lazulite crystals, and the brilliant neon rainbows from iridescent hematite.

We couldn't have asked for better weather albeit a bit of rain on Friday.  Over a thousand people visited the mountain during this rock swap.  And it becomes apparent why if you've ever come to visit Graves Mountain.  It's literally beautiful inside and out.

Many people camp at Elijah Clark State Park throughout the event.  Its 447 acres supports 165 camp/trailer/RV sites, room enough for a bunch of rockhounds.  Just another great reason to come to Graves Mountain.

Below:  Night at Elijah Clark just before the start of the rock swap.

Here's just a short video I threw together.  I really didn't want to do much filming or photography on this trip because I was there only to dig.  I also didn't want to ruin my camera from all the dust and grit flying about around all these rockhounds.   But I couldn't resist the urge to document with my iPhone.

Since I didn't take my nice camera up on the mountain, it allowed me to play around with light.  Actually it's Mark and Gene who were playing with light.

The first, a light toy Tony brought that Mark attempted to use.  He tripped during his performance but created an interesting piece. The second, master blacksmith Gene forges his sword as he readies for battle the next day.  Lastly, Mark stoking the flames.

By the way, this is how it's suppose to look when they're used properly with Tony at the helm.

Oh yeah, and here's a few specimens I managed to find on the mountain.  The last picture was the result of some weird distortion artifacts produced by the stacking software that I decided to leave in the picture because of its trippy effect.

I had a wonderful time among friends, camp fires, and Graves Mountain.  Can't wait for next time!  Hope to see you there.   Wink

I just don't like to dig - you see
Picking rocks up right off the ground

You flatter me Scott!  That is merely how they look if you don't trip or hit yourself.  Here is a video of proper Poi.  Granted his toys cost 500% more than mine, but that's no excuse!

Would you mind/be able to give me some copies of the photos?  I would really like to use that one of the trees lit be the fire as a desktop, and I think that's the first time I've ever been photographed with the poi as well.  Shocked

That guy was incredible.  It makes me want to go get some Poi toys now.  PM me an email and I'll send you the pictures.

Great report, Scott. Gave me the best impression yet of the overall conditions there.
