This is a tessin habit smoky quartz crystal recovered in Raleigh, NC.  Although the aesthetics may be affected by my hand in the picture I felt it helped demonstrate scale and transparency of the crystal.

Here a smoky Mark Randel found in Alexander County, NC a few years ago.  It's about 3-4 inches long and of course one of my favorite habits, the tessin habit.

Macedonia, NC.  The construction site here was discovered by Dave Harte to have smoky quartz with red rutile inclusions.  This particular find was found in the tread marks of a bull dozer.  No damage can be found on this beauty.

Thanks Jay, yeah there's a lot to appreciate about it.  There's so much going on with it and I seem to find something new everytime I look at it.

Good grief! That smoky Dave found is just so beautiful, but I can't stop loving those tessins! The quality of that quartz is phenomenal!

Dave discovered that this particular construction site had crystals, but he did not find this crystal.  This one was my find.   Grin

Dave, however, did find this remarkable find at that same construction site.  I've been trying to get it from him ever since -- although if I were to guess I would say this one is staying in his collection until he gives up the ghost!   Wink

brings back good memories. Wish I had found that spot a wekk or two sooner, who knows what else was in the top layer of soil that was scraped and removed by the time we got out there to look. It did however continue to produce for quite some time. I'll never forget that big one just sitting next to a dirt pile, looked like a piece of black PVC. If I only had a good camera i'd take more pics of other material from there and elsewhere.

thanks for posting that Scott!

-Dave
